There's a heady wind that blows in across the Western suburbs of Melbourne (Australia) that reminds us of the dirty work that gets done for us on the edges of the city, the things we'd rather not see, hear or smell... This song is a homage to people and places that don't fit into the spin of the Most Liveable City in the World.
And in case you weren't sure: Brooklyn (postcode 3012) is a suburb of Melbourne - not the Brooklyn in New York...
Songwriter Dave Bowers writes about the places where he grew up. This song is about a wind and a state of mind that can't easily be shaken off.

Lyrics

Out in Brooklyn, Brooklyn 3012
Big Trucks rolling through Brooklyn 3012
Out in Brooklyn, Brooklyn, thinking of you
West wind can sure make you blue, Brooklyn 3012

It’s rolling in, rolling in, rolling in, that Brooklyn wind.
Brooklyn wind, Brooklyn wind

The things you don’t want to see
the wind will bring to you for free
She’s working hard out there, Rosie

Out in Brooklyn, Brooklyn 3012
Dirty creek running through, Brooklyn 3012

It’s rolling in, rolling in, rolling in, that Brooklyn wind
Brooklyn wind, Brooklyn wind

It hits so hard, it comes slamming in like a stolen car
Brooklyn wind can bring you down
From the tanneries and abattoir, lonesome as a steel guitar
Brooklyn wind can bring you down

And all your dirty work gets done for you in Brooklyn 3012
Yeah it’s rolling in, rolling in, rolling in, that Brooklyn wind
Brooklyn wind, Brooklyn wind
Makes a man think upon his sins, that Brooklyn wind
Gets right under your skin, Brooklyn wind
